Home-Start volunteers - A weekly miracle

The nature of Home-Start’s work is that you never know who has received the support of one of our volunteers and how it has changed their lives.

When we contacted the craft blogger Little Conkers to see if she wanted to crochet a snowflake as part of LoveCrochet’s campaign to support our Snowflake Appeal we didn’t know that she would write a moving account of how a Home-Start volunteer helped to change her life when she was pregnant.

“I was very sick during all three of my pregnancies,” she wrote. “Not quite sick enough to be hospitalised, but enough to be unable to function physically or mentally, or even talk, for the whole nine months… during my last pregnancy HomeStart UK sent a woman, just to be with my elder two children, to play with them and talk to them, for a couple of hours a week, it was the only bright spot in our lives. She was just a woman, she did nothing out of the ordinary, but for us, it was a weekly miracle.”

We are delighted that she could write about our Snowflake Appeal, but we are even more pleased that our volunteer could help her and her family when she needed it.
